Now a five-time winner, Suzanne’s School of Dance again takes the honor of Best Dance Instruction/Studio in the Brazos Valley!
Suzanne Moreau and her husband, Chuck, who own several other area businesses including Brazos Valley Carpet Outlet and Aggieland Lighting, first opened the studio in 1992 with 32 little ballerinas. They moved to their current location on Rock Prairie Road in College Station in 2002. Today, they have grown to approximately 400 students with a staff including two full-time and 12 part-time employees. Suzanne continues to provide her instructors the opportunity to further their dance training. As artists, it is important to teach excellence with integrity.
A dancer since the age of three, Suzanne has been trained in many genres of dance, including ballet, Pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical and musical theater. She has been a member of several dance companies including the Beaumont Civic Ballet and Jefferson Jazz Ballet Company. She says she knew since a young age that she wanted to teach dance and have her own studio. But, she says it wasn’t until she was totally committed to her Christian faith that the Lord put the opportunity before her. Suzanne says her students bring honor to God through dance; she calls it “A Movement with a Message”. Character and integrity are emphasized and the music, costumes and choreography are all chosen with that in mind.
Suzanne’s studio features three dance rooms in a 5,000 sq. ft. building. They offer a variety of weekly classes, as well as in-house and out-of-town workshops from professional artists. Dancers from beginners to pre-professional, ages 2 years through adult, can train in ballet, Pointe, jazz, leaps & turns, tap, modern, lyrical, contemporary, spirit of worship, and hip-hop. Suzanne has a fantastic staff of instructors who teach excellence in technique in a loving, positive environment. The ballet program offers a Ballet Syllabus, which prepares her students for a professional career in ballet if they so choose.
Suzanne’s School of Dance is the home of Company and Apprentice AbunDance “A Ministry in Motion” and STEP HipHop Crew. Auditions to join a dance company at Suzanne’s are held every spring, and all three companies perform locally and in surrounding cities in venues such as churches, festivals and workshops. The companies are also prevalent at community events such as Fall Fest in Downtown Bryan, Christmas in the Park, the George Bush Presidential Library, and Art of Worship. Suzanne’s holds two spring recitals in May. Performances are held at Rudder Auditorium at Texas A&M and Margaret Rudder Performing Arts Center.
Company AbunDance has had the privilege to be a part of Project Dance New York since 2002, a dance outreach in the heart of Times Square. The Company is also involved in Project Dance Houston. They attend a week long dance intensive in Houston each summer. Suzanne’s throws an annual spring gala to honor her graduating seniors. This gala features performances from all three companies, and doubles as a fundraising event to help support the New York outreach and any other outreach opportunities.
A Dancer’s Trunk is located inside Suzanne’s Dance Studio, where dancers can purchase all the latest shoes and dance wear. Dancer’s Trunk carries new and gently-used shoes, and offers a 10% discount to all Texas A&M students, as well as anyone who is a registered student at Suzanne’s. The studio is also available to rent for birthday parties. An instructor will teach the girls
ballet, jazz or hip-hop dance, complete with costumes and props! Summer camps and classes are also available.
