Class Descriptions
Tiny Tots (Ages 2-3): Ballet and Tap – offered for 2-3 year olds that want a jump start into the dance world. The students are instructed in motor skills and development using basic genres of ballet and tap.
Pre Primary I and II combo (Ages 3-5): Ballet and Tap – A fun introduction to ballet and tap dance steps, basic techniques and beginning vocabulary for our youngest dancers.
Primary I combo (Ages 5-6): Ballet, Tap and Jazz – Ballet and tap basics, introduction to jazz, beginning of barre work, memorization of choreography and dance vocabulary.
Primary II combo (Ages 6-7): Ballet, Tap and Jazz- For our young dancers with some dance experience. This is a continuation of the Primary I ballet, tap, and jazz class
Secondary I (8 and up): Ballet and Jazz – For dancers with previous dance training. Expanding dance terminology with more developed use of concepts. This is a ballet and jazz combo class with more focus on technique.
Secondary II (8 and up): Ballet and Jazz – For dancers with previous dance training depending on individual progress and understanding of technical concepts. This is a ballet and jazz combo class with more focus on technique.
Secondary III (9 and up): Ballet and Jazz – For dancers with previous years of dance training. Completion of Secondary II concepts for strong foundation. More technically based and challenging. Level placement by invitation only.
Intermediate I: For dancers with previous years of dance training. Completion of Secondary III concepts for strong foundation. More technically based and challenging. Level placement by invitation only.
Intermediate II: Intermediate level mostly for teens. Completion of Intermediate I concepts for strong foundation. Technically advancing with goals for advanced levels. Level placement by invitation only.
Advanced I: Fine tuning of all concepts for strength and technical ability. Level placement by invitation only.
Advanced II: Our most advanced level for the more dedicated and experienced dance students. It’s very technically based, fast moving and challenging. Fine tuning of all concepts for strength and technical ability.Must complete Advanced I concepts. Level placement by invitation only.
Hip Hop (Primary-Advanced): Combines jazz and the latest urban street styles. This class starts with a conditioning warm-up and teaches contemporary street dance. Students can begin Hip Hop Primary at age 5. Class placement dependent on age and dance level.
Modern: A style of dancing that is not as restricted as classical ballet; movements are expressive of feelings, complex emotions and abstract ideas.
Tap (Secondary- Advanced): Tap dancing uniquely teaches rhythm and coordination while strengthening the feet and legs. Traditional style tap is taught in all of the classes, however “hoofin” and “jazz-tap” styles influence many of the intermediate and advanced levels.
Lyrical (Beginning-Advanced): Combines strong ballet technique with freedom of movement and expression. Lyrical dance can also be described as a mix between ballet and slow jazz movements that combine to tell a story. Students may begin taking lyrical at age 7.
