Company AbunDance

In a world of various dance genres and performers, there is a community of dancers that desire to express a pure and honest look at the God who created dance for His Name and His Glory.  We are only a part of this large community of people that are excited to see God move through the arts in the coming years.
Company AbunDance is a Christian performing group within Suzanne’s School of Dance.  Company AbunDance, “A Ministry in Motion,” has become not only a performance group, but a ministry through uniquely created dances that are based from scriptures and life experiences.  Within the Company rehearsals, our teachers and choreographers spend time listening, praying and teaching biblical principles to the members.  This allows the ministry to be two-fold; building up the members in faith and love, and extending God’s grace through performances.
Company AbunDance originated in 1999 as “pre-professionals” and later evolved into what is now known as Company AbunDance.  Since then, the members have traveled to many conventions, including Dance Revolution and Dance Ad Deum.  The company travels to New York as a part of Project Dance, an outreach through the arts in the midst of Time Square. Company AbunDance graduates have moved on to dance in college and professional companies.  The Company currently consists of dancers between the ages of 13-18.  Auditions are held annually in the spring.

Is Company AbunDance available to perform at my church or school function?

Apprentice AbunDance
Many young dancers begin seeking dance as more than just an after school class, but as a part of what makes them who they are.  With the many influences from media and pressures from peers starting earlier and earlier, strategic dance groups have been formed all over the world to provide a safe and encouraging dance environment.  Suzanne’s School of Dance has a vision for these young dancers to have a place to train and grow both physically and spiritually.
Apprentice AbunDance offers young dancers, from the ages of 9 and up, an environment to grow in dance technique and Christian character.  The dancers are given the opportunity to train under various instructors as well as to be mentored by members of Company AbunDance, thus offering a foundation of solid dance training coupled with Biblical principals that will prepare them for the world of dance.
After originating in 2004, Apprentice AbunDance has performed in various community events and shows, such as:

* Annual Company/Senior Gala
* Art of Worship
* American Dance/Drill Team Competition held at AMC HS
* Various community performances
* Local churches

They have also traveled and participated in professional conventions, such as Dance Revolution in Dallas, TX.  These opportunities give the members of Apprentice AbunDance the chance to learn and experience dance as a ministry.  During regular class times and performances, the members are encouraged to be an instrument of the Lord through movement and expression.  Apprentice Auditions are held annually in the spring.

PraYze – Hip Hop Company
In the mid 80’s, Christian artists recognized that there existed a large group of urban kids that were being influenced by the Hip Hop/Rap culture.  They saw that a new genre of music had been created in the urban areas and it was affecting the way young kids talked, dressed, danced and lived. Their answer was to create Christian Hip Hop/Rap music that would “take the Gospel to the streets.”  Though that was a wonderful idea, they missed the mark.  Soon, it became apparent that the urban kids were not hearing the music because it was mostly being played in rural and suburban Christian venues and was not making it to the urban streets.  They endeavored to take the music and the dance to the suburbs as outreach.

Since that time, the Lord has mightily used Christian Hip Hop to reach a culture the church was not reaching.  People are drawn to the music and dance – and then the opportunity to minister the love of God is created.
Suzanne’s School of Dance recognizes the importance of using Hip Hop dance as an outreach tool.  The Hip Hop Company will train dancers to not only learn Hip Hop but will also give them opportunity to minister with their dance.  This Hip Hop Company will take the Light of the Lord to the streets.
We will have opportunity to perform when Company and Apprentice AbunDance perform as well as other outreaches.
